2010 Ride Details

The ride is finally here! Please read the message below IN FULL for important details about the ride.

Ride Events & Schedule

THURSDAY JULY 29 6:00PM - 8:00PM – Pre-ride dinner & Pre-ride Check in
Location: Bertucci’s in Foggy Bottom
Bertucci’s will be giving registered riders a free pasta dinner as well as breadsticks and refreshments. Riders may pick up their ride day packet including the ride jersey, bike cue sheet, bike number, and more. This is a great opportunity to get a better feel for the event, meet other riders, and make check in easier the day of the ride. If you cannot come on Thursday, you may pick up your ride packet the morning of the ride
*All alcoholic beverages and other dishes will need to be paid for separately.

RIDE DAY - FRIDAY JULY 29
3:40 AM - Events begin
Location: Gonzaga CHS, 19 Eye St. NW, DC
If you are driving please enter on through the North Capital St entrance.
Cyclist may enter through the H St. entrance.

4:00 AM - Riders must arrive at the Starting Line
Riders must allow at least 20-30 minutes for rider check-in. If you are not checked-in by 4:30 you will not be allowed to do the first portion of the ride and you will be driven to the first rest-stop.

Riders to come with the following:

  • Water bottle
  • Rear red blinking light
  • Front white headlight
  • Helmet

We strongly recommend the following:

  • At least one spare tire tube
  • Fully charged cell-phone
  • Cash/credit card

If you do not have these items you will not be allowed to ride.

4:30AM – Ride Begins – 1st Leg, about 33 miles

6:15AM – 8:00AM – Caravan over the Bay Bridge

7:15AM – 9AM – 2nd Leg, about 71 miles

11:00AM – 5:30PM – Riders cross finish line, Food & Festivities!
*If you are on pace to finish after 5:30 we may assist you by asking you to drive in a car for a potion of the route, most likely to the next rest-stop, for you to continue your ride.
Finish Line - NorthbeachBar and Restaurant, 125 McKinley Street, Dewey Beach, DE
Bike to the Beach will have water and caloric replenishment items available to our riders. Northbeach is a fully functioning restaurant and bar and will be providing discount coupons to riders and volunteers.

5:45 PM – B2B Riders Group Picture, closing ceremonies, and announce raffle winners

Approx 8:30 PM - Transportation back to starting line

DC2NY bussing services will take any riders that need transportation back to the starting line at Gonzaga. Metropolitan Moving and Storage will drive bikes back to the start, and take any bikes that need to go to storage because riders do not have a place to keep them for the weekend. You can pick up you bike from Metropolitan Moving and Storage any time on Sunday or Monday in Rockville, MD.

SATURDAY JULY 31 - Recovery brunch
Location: The Starboard in Dewey
We will recover and reminisce about our accomplishments from the day before. Starboard will be providing discount/coupons to riders and volunteers at the finish line.

IMPORTANT QUESTIONS:

1) Do you need a spot reserved for you on the Friday night bus home? (There will be buses available on Saturday and Sunday through DC2NY online for a fee)
2) Do you need Metropolitan Moving and Storage to hold your bike in storage for you?
3) Would you like to opt out of our rider tracking program (if yes you do not need to stop at certain rest-stops, if no, you need to stop at designated rest-stops to check-in)
4) Will you be providing your own transportation over the Bay Bridge?
5) Are there any medical needs or complications that Bike to the Beach should be aware of?
6) Are you certified in CPR or have any medical background that may be able to aid a fellow rider?
7) Would you like to change your jersey size?
