Autism Speaks
It wasn't long ago that parents of children with autism were told there was no cure for this baffling disorder, and that they would have to wait for science to catch up. But these parents - and their children - simply couldn't wait. Neither can we.
- Autism Speaks was founded in 2005 and in its first two years of existence has merged operations with the leading national Autism research-based organizations to create one substantial voice for the autism community with a history of over 12 years of funding research, raising awareness and providing help for children and families affected by autism.
- Our primary focus is to fund essential research, raise awareness about autism, provide community support grants for families, advocate for the autism community on the federal and state levels, and develop initiatives to continue the education process for those families currently impacted for autism and those who may soon face this disorder.
- In 2007 alone, Autism Speaks will commit over $50 million in research, scientific resources, and numerous outreach and awareness activities, making it the largest private provider of support for autism research and resources in the world.
- While searching for the causes and effective treatments for tomorrow, Autism Speaks is equally committed to helping families living with autism today, fighting for their rights and providing a resource that can help families achieve the greatest success.
- By encouraging progressive therapies, treatments and solutions, we're helping improve the quality of life for individuals with autism, and those who love them.
Goals:
At Autism Speaks, our goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders.
We are dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. We are committed to raising the funds necessary to support these goals.
Autism Speaks aims to bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to our concerns and take action to address this urgent global health crisis. It is our firm belief that, working together, we will find the missing pieces of the puzzle.
